Jill Johnson is a homegrown local leader committed to serving Island County and
making a difference in our daily lives. She is known for her straight talk and passionate
approach to getting things done. A graduate of Oak Harbo High School (Go Wildcats!),
Jill earned a Communication and Economics Degree from Central Washington
University and an Administrative Leadership Certification from the National Association
of Counties Leadership Academy.
Jill currently serves as the Chair of the Board of Island County Commissioners and
works tirelessly behind the scenes bringing her strong community ties and local local
government experience to work solving the problems that impact us all.
Jill works hard to deliver sustainable, affordable and workable local solutions for the
challenges we face every day.
Jill believes in solutions not credit, and values results not political rhetoric. Getting you
the solutions you need is her only priority.
By understanding the important role that local government plays in your daily life, Jill
works to protect your values and prioritizes County investments to best reflect the
outcomes you expect from your local government.
Jill continues to emphasize public health and safety and is proud her role in increasing
the number of local Sherriff deputies from 23 in 2012 to 42 in 2024. Her budget
leadership has helped Island County prioritize spending in the areas you value most.
Jill is recognized state-wide for her leadership advocating for investments in mental
health and chemical dependency services. She was responsible for bringing the first
mental health stabilization facility to Island County.
A past member of the Oak Harbor Planning Commission, Jill is a leader in Island
County’s land-use planning discussions ensuring that our policies reflect the diverse
values of both our islands and our local communities.
Jill is constantly looking for ways to make small improvements that offer a high return on
investment, from appropriately placed sidewalks, wide shoulders, ADA accessible trails
and public beach access, Jill knows that the little things add to your quality of life,
making them the big things.
